Privacy First: Your data stays on your device by default. Cloud processing is only used with your explicit permission and solely for generating summaries of your content.
Information We Collect
Data Processed Locally
Keytakes processes the following data entirely on your device:
- Audio and video files you import
- Text content you provide
- Generated transcriptions
- AI-generated summaries and extracts
- Application preferences and settings
Optional Cloud Processing
Only when you explicitly enable cloud-based summarization features, we may process:
- Text content for the sole purpose of generating summaries
- Transcribed text (never the original audio/video files)
How We Use Your Information
On-Device Processing
All primary functions of Keytakes operate entirely on your device:
- Transcription using Apple's Speech framework
- AI summarization using on-device language models
- Content search and organization
- Data synchronization via your iCloud account
Cloud Processing (Optional)
When you choose to use cloud-based summarization:
- Text content is sent securely to our servers for processing
- Content is processed immediately and not stored
- Results are returned to your device
- No permanent copies are retained on our servers
Data Storage and Security
Local Storage
Your data is stored locally on your device in the following locations:
- Application Support directory in a "Keytakes" folder
- iCloud (when sync is enabled) for cross-device access
Cloud Security
When using optional cloud features:
- All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption
- HMAC authentication ensures data integrity
- No data is permanently stored on our servers
- Processing occurs in secure, isolated environments
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties.
Your content remains private and is never shared except:
- When you explicitly export or share content yourself
- For optional cloud processing as described above
- If required by law (we will notify you unless prohibited)
Your Rights and Controls
You have complete control over your data:
- Local Processing: Use all core features without any cloud connectivity
- Opt-in Cloud Features: Choose when to use cloud-based summarization
- Data Deletion: Remove any content from the app at any time
- iCloud Control: Enable or disable sync through System Preferences
- Export: Export your data in various formats
Third-Party Services
Keytakes integrates with the following Apple services:
- Speech Framework: For audio transcription (processed locally)
- iCloud: For data synchronization (when enabled)
- FoundationModels: For on-device AI processing
These services are governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, available at apple.com/privacy.
International Data Transfers
When using optional cloud features, your data may be processed on servers located in various countries. All transfers are protected by appropriate safeguards including:
- Encryption in transit and at rest
- Immediate processing without storage
- Compliance with applicable data protection laws
